Thanks for the positive words. We really feel that our core group are a special bunch. When this group joined up over a year ago they made music together right from the start. That is part of the reason why settling for lost time or idle time simply can not be an option.
In answer to your question they just had year end and transitioned to U9. They are 05’s and 06’s, but oddly enough the core are mostly 06 players … and left footed. I’m not sure how common that is.
Here are a couple of links when part of the group first got together while U7’s:

I love the third video where as the build-up starts out of the back you can hear what I assume is a parent saying …”Hannah get it out of there”, and then as she makes the first pass “NO”. Only to be cheering 10 seconds later after the winning goal. Gotta love that parental input.
March 15, 2014 at 11:48 am in reply to: Appropriate Player Evaluation/Assessment… What Qualities are Paramount? #1858I appreciate what you did here Ryan. We are going to add this to what we do for evaluating our players as well. IMO decision making abilities is what is really lacking in the soccer culture around us. You have a couple of categories that elude to the same thing, but I’m going to put that wording on the form we use. Thanks again.
Interesting topic gentlemen as we are looking to really incorporate futsal with our U8 boys here in the SLC area. The younger futsal leagues are difficult to find, but we have a group that owns some facilities that are wanting to help push the technical side that futsal really emphasizes. Obviously winter time is the main time around here to do the court play, but it seems smart to have it a part of what you do all year long.
Afternoon all,
My name is Shawn Daniels and I live just north of SLC. I grew up really playing little to no soccer at all and was oblivious to what it really was. I became enamored with the ’94 World Cup buildup and shortly after moved down to Brazil to experience the euphoria of their fourth world title and their immediate vision towards the penta-campeonato. To see the passion of the game and the influence of futbol everywhere was life changing. Since then I have kept up with the international game and traded in my NBA game passes for as many channels to watch high level European soccer as much as possible. Cue the wife sigh in the background.
Years later I find myself with a daughter who is 12 and a son who is 7 and both entrenched in the game. I am an Assistant Coach on my sons U8 team and have just the minimal licensing that is required. I find myself searching for a higher level of soccer and really my path isn’t to become the next Jose Mourinho, but to really help guide parents / players / coaches to a higher mindset. This Brek Shea approach to the game is really nauseating.
I stumbled onto the blog when I started to look into the Ben Lederman story and have been a serial lurker ever since (actually I have posted a couple of times mainly just to prod Dr Loco into a rant 🙂 ). We have been fortunate to assemble a pretty special group on the U8 team that is pretty dedicated and have had some small successes in the right direction. There is no question that this site will help in how I am trying to contribute at our location. Here is a quick look at the team earlier this year when they were U7 and playing 6 v 6. Still pretty choppy, but we are committed to teaching them the right way. Take a look:

I will follow some of you on twitter and look for ways to become better with our endeavors. Thanks in advance.
