Thanks for watching and providing feedback, Alfredo! There were a couple of moments where the goalkeeper looked to relieve pressure by punting the ball high up the field, however, unable to connect due to the poor positioning of the forwards and center midfielder, as well as, the lack of aim on his distribution. I will share this with my keepers in greater detail, including the option of throwing the ball over the first line of defense. It’s been communicated to them, but yet been rehearsed. I agree with you about the forwards; seem clueless with their overall roles and responsibilities in the video. Happy to say that they’re starting to come along since attacking patterns have been included into the sessions and working more on our play in the final third.
Hi Ryan. Nice to see that you are on the other side of the Potomac. Would love to connect some time and possibly get some games in amongst our teams.
Hi Shaun. Good seeing you on here. My U11s played your boys at the Columbia Fall Classic, but didn’t fair as well as I had hoped. Poor coaching on my part and outstanding on yours. Congrats on winning the division nevertheless. Would love to connect some time.
I, too, am interested in what you do for restarts. Preferably, I have my boys play it short and quick when we’re in our own half. Free kicks around the box, we are more organized in order to get a shot off. There’s a heavy emphasis of getting it on frame and two forwards following it up. On corners, we serve an in-swinger to players who make numbered runs (1 to the near post, 2 goes across the keeper, 3 curls to the back post while 4 and 5 stays at the top of the box directly across from a post). Throw-ins get played to a teammates feet. Usually to a teammate in a deeper lying position after we fake it forward to retain possession.
great collection of resources jed. highly appreciative of you sharing.
Hi Brian and Gary,
How often does the high pressure from your front 5 get easily broken where you’ve had to adjust tactically or do you rather continue to press and take your chances? What types of adjustments have you made? I’m curious to see what you have done in this scenario where a team that is technically/tactically better is consistently getting past your attacking and midfield and into your defensive third, i.e. the boys from La Masia.
