What level are the JOTP squads. We have them on our schedules for Midwest Regionals? My daughter trains in a Futsal residency program during the school year. http://www.CityFutsal.com She plays on the U9 boys squad.
The trip to Barca was amazing for her and I both. Her group was lucky and landed a private chat with Andreu Plaza from Barcelona’s futsal academy and he led a private training session for them as well.
The futsal focus has transformed her outdoor game. All facets of her game have exploded. Speed of play, speed of thought. movement, confidence on the ball…
Sent you an email Gary with contact info for filming here in Dallas. Sean is top notch.
I do know THE MAN in the area. Friend of mine and his daughter has played with us before.
Shoot me an email at KicksNorth06@gmail.com and I can get you guys hooked up. Would be my pleasure. The games are held 5 minutes from my office and the other site is 20 minutes from my house. Bet your ass I’ll be there.
Gary, you guys going to be in Dallas for Dallas Cup?
Would love to come out and watch your boys play. Maybe show you guys some Big D hospitality.
They are at that point already. I’ll get a couple clips on here. An amazing group of 7 and 8 year olds.
For first timers its about touches on the ball. For example i broke the rondo down for my U5s and U6s and made it a simple pass to them thru a cone that they receive across the body and push it on towards a goal or target. Gets them comfortable with receiving across the body, works that first touch.
Now i worked our U8 girls this week and they took to the 4v0 and 4v1 rapidly. They are all extremely advanced. Top in NTX area hands down.
Sunny,
The DFW area is the same as the area you describe. The approach that we took when we put this team together was that we actually scouted the players that wanted into our group and got to know the parents. We wanted like minded parents that were open to the girls being pushed, losing, winning, learning, etc… This is a side team not affiliated with the club my daughter actually plays for. We took our lumps last summer as the group came together, but now are playing up an age group and doing very well.
The video I have posted there is not a futsal match. I am generally coaching the futsal matches so am unable to film them. I wish I could. Those are so fun to see. The little things they are picking up from futsal is just great. Our club starts it futsal curriculum this March and everyone is excited about it.
Thanks,
Mark
Sunny,
Check the futsal thread. I posted a video there. Might be what you are looking for.
The futsal scene here in Dallas has been growing rapidly over the last 3 years or so. There is currently year round league play offered at all ages, witht the best league being offered by City Futsal. No coincedence the two leading the way at City Futsal are former US Futsal National team members that now work closely with US Futsal.
Our club emphasizes a possession style, which is emphasized in futsal. Our leadership explored it and came to terms with City Futsal to introduce it as a part of the daily activities for our clubs players. Will be included as part of the dues paid by the players at a significatly reduced cost because of the entire club entering the program.
I know the street and the school… the song, brings back memories! Haha. Girls soccer down there isnt doing very well. Lack of support. It has come a long long way, but still has a long way to go.
I was born in Weslaco. Tell me you know what El Pato’s is.. haha
Not to sound like a snob, but I wouldnt have posted it if they were the team in black. haha My daughters squad is the one in white. Here in TX they are all deemed 2006s as their soccer year. 8/1/2005-7/31/2006. Born between those dates you would be an ’06, born before an ’05, born after an ’07, etc…
I was born and raised in the Valley! Small world mi amigo.
I will see about filming out futsal match this friday night. I can have the other dad coach the squad if he is available. Video is an excellent tool. I carry mine everywhere. I have film of most all my daughters outdoor matches. I provide a copy for our coach for him to review for the squad, and I break one down for highlight stuff. Im not one to sit her down and go over film with her. Not age appropriate yet, but will occassionally show her a clip or two of good stuff and break downs in play. Her coach plays emphasizes off the ball movement and possession. Tells the kids daily that he watches the players without the ball more than the one with it. Her group is only U8, but are just phenomenal to watch when they are on.
I dont have any futsal video as I am coaching the futsal matches, but we took them to TN for a U9 tourney in November and i have some.footage. it was 6v6. In Dallas this group has already been playing 9v9, not personally a fan of the big field for them at this age, but it is what it is here.
We do play with modified rules here. They step the rules up.as the age groups increase. When they play U8 its more of an open game, U9 a few more rules are enforced, etc…

I am personally a fan of the small clubs. Dallas Kicks is almost exactly what you describe your club to be. Kicks coaches are all parent coaches. Most all played the game at some level growing up who now have kids playing so they coach. It started with one team Dallas Kicks SC 01 girls and has now grown to what it is today. I helped organize the club into what you now see.
My 09s are a pleasure to be around, will be fun to figure this all out with them.
I think for the right group of kids and families its a fit. The squad we put together last spring consisted of girls from 3 different clubs. All highly competitive and advanced for their age.
Spent a couple months doing futsal specific training provided by Esteban Mariel of City Futsal in Dallas. Who is now a member of the US Youth Futsal regional coaching staff.
The girls now all play for the same club but have kept the futsal team apart from the club as something for fun, to learn, and to compete with. They have been playing up with U9s this winter and have excelled, This group though even outdoors dominates the next age group until we get into the most elite of teams.
The parents happily cheer and are not a bunch of over the top people and let myself and one other dad coach them without issue. We are looking forward to traveling as a group to KC for nationals as a get away with the girls.
