Attached is my first attempt to video the U8 boys club team I coach. I was curious to see how we looked after analyzing, but also to say Thank You to 3four3!
The game was this past weekend — my U8 team (Green jersey) that have been trained to possess the ball out of back vs a U9 club boys team (white team). I apologize in advance for the poor quality video — sun facing the bleachers so had to tape behind a goal, old camcorder that couldn’t zoom out enough with angle we had which misses several moments/width of play, and a dad volunteering his amateur videography services (but did better than I could).
A few factors to note:
- 6v6 (5 plus a goalie) on a 60×40 field (four games on 1 large turf field)
- U8 club vs U9 club. 25 minute, 1st Half only as we planned prior to game.
- 3-pass sequence? I count 3-pass sequence to see how we possess the ball due to number of field players and size of field. 12 v 1 three-pass.
- 47 back foot receives by my team in first half.
- Opposing coach is huge Coerver guy and “let them play” style of coaching
- Due to layout, you will hear several coaching voices. The guy instructing “shape” is the game next to us…it’s not in our language. We are a vocal coaching staff with instruction, but not all voices are ours.
Somehow, in my first attempt there is a 2-part video. 22 minutes on link 1 and 2 minutes on link 2. Hopefully low video quality is watchable….

Thanks.

My impressions are yes, like you acknowledge, the videography is not easy on the eyes. But beyond aesthetics, it’s really hard to make any assessments without good quality video.
We all have to start somewhere though 🙂 … and I applaud you getting it done and sharing!
From my point of view anyway, you now learn and have a reference to build from.
Main recommendation for future videos: Make a short (~ 1 – 4 minutes) highlighting the execution of 1 main thing you want to show.
For example,
- only capture your successful 3-pass sequences, or
- only capture your players successfully receiving ‘opposite foot’
… and of course some more video quality 🙂
I was able to gather from your vids, however, that the roster level you have is definitely something you can work with (if that means anything to you). And I did witness some intentional receiving across the body.
Keep at it! Try to make capturing and sharing video a regular thing if you can.
p.s. Coincidentally, the next 3four3 article coming next week happens to be on capturing video. haha
