If in the Lonestar state lets hear from you.
December 30, 2013 at 6:39 pm #1236Hello Mark.
My name is James Brodie, and I live about 30 miles south of the Houston area. A few days ago I believe I saw a couple of people from Texas in the “Introduce Yourself” section of the forum as well (El Paso & Houston).
It’s nice to have a Texas contingent! I look forward to hearing and learning from you.
Take care,
James
December 30, 2013 at 7:14 pm #1237Hey james,
Who do you coach for if you dont mindme asking? I lived in Clear lake for several years and a sister of mine played her club ball there for a few clubs. I still have a few I consider pals that are STX coaches with the Dynamos Academy.
December 30, 2013 at 9:55 pm #1249Mark,
I coach with a local club in Angleton, TX. It is a simple, local club that is primarily organized by parents who have kids playing in the club. We do not have much compared to our Houston counterparts (e.g., local onsite trainers or a curriculum that our kids utilize). There is a lack of volunteer coaches every year, and some parents are “roped in” to having to coach with the threat that their child’s team will disband if no volunteer steps up to help. Our kids do not officially play competitive soccer until U11. I would consider us heavily behind the curve as compared to clubs closer to and within the Houston area.
I am aware of the clubs to which you are referring. We are within fairly close distance to the Clear Lake area.
I checked out your site. Nice. I see you have a an 09 team.
I am very interested in how you will conceptually provide the foundation to the little ones and progress from U5 in the upcoming years. This is exciting.
I will likely pick your brain if you don’t mind.
Take care,
James
December 31, 2013 at 2:21 am #1250I am personally a fan of the small clubs. Dallas Kicks is almost exactly what you describe your club to be. Kicks coaches are all parent coaches. Most all played the game at some level growing up who now have kids playing so they coach. It started with one team Dallas Kicks SC 01 girls and has now grown to what it is today. I helped organize the club into what you now see.
My 09s are a pleasure to be around, will be fun to figure this all out with them.

September 10, 2015 at 9:51 am #4468Hello All,
I actually just emailed Gary asking about Texas members and stumbled upon this post:)
I am in Houston (North) and have been a member for some time. I am the Director of Player Development now for a small club in Cypress and have also been working with Horst Wein (FUNino) to develop a optimal player development model!

September 13, 2015 at 6:00 pm #4470Hey guys,
I am in Corpus Christi at an independent club. I coach a U12 boys team which is basically playing up a year because of one player (last year we were U10). It has its pros and cons but I am able to coach/teach a possession game to the kids which is the best thing.
I usually travel to North Houston b/c I have family in the Aldine area.. Maybe one day I can swing by and watch some practices and have a chat.
