Thought since we have a decent number of Portland area and Oregon coaches as members it would be good to have a topic thread in the communities section where we can track and stay connected. Also we can use this thread to collaborate locally and schedule some face time as a local group.
So far I am aware of 4 of us (will update as we identify any additional Oregon members):
Christopher Cramer – TFA Barcelona Oregon (Gresham area of Portland Metro)
Rene Gonzalez – Club ?? (Hawthorne area of Portland Metro)
Andrew Crollard – Eastern Oregon University and Club ?? (LeGrande, Oregon)
Wolfgang Hoffman – Aloha United (Aloha area of Portland Metro)
December 29, 2013 at 7:30 am #1147Great idea Wolfgang!
I am independent for now – ran a Men’s Team that was part of Westside Timbers 04-06, but right now only coaching a u8 girls rec team (my twin daughters team) through Laurelhurst. Considering putting them in development league this spring, but with the mess that is Oregon classic soccer right now, a little unclear where to put them.

December 29, 2013 at 10:11 am #1152I’ll throw my hat into this ring, even though I’m based in Seattle. I get down to Portland fairly often to cover Timbers games as a member of the media.
December 29, 2013 at 5:49 pm #1171Gentlemen,
Another for the Oregon contingent. Rene and I have discussed Portland soccer over coffee before. Happy to do again. Chris I have coached matches playing TFA. I really like their style.
Cheers,
Kevin
December 29, 2013 at 9:03 pm #1176Kevin, so nice to see you on here! Definitely happy to do coffee again (and please keep Mr. Frazier in line). A Portland get together sounds like a good idea in 2014.
December 29, 2013 at 9:59 pm #1177Good idea. My club is Union County United, by the way.
You Portland area folk can expect a request from me to come observe a session when I happen to come to that side of the state next.
I don’t know if the coach would allow it, but I’d recommend trying to get in touch with the women’s coach at Concordia University and try to go observe a session or two. They won the NAIA national championship this year and played some great soccer.

December 29, 2013 at 10:07 pm #1179I think most teams are shifting over to the Timbers and Thorns leagues. Deadline for the league to qualify for the state cup is January 6 and the other league without state cup qualification has a deadline January 21: http://www.oregonyouthsoccer.org/players/springleague.aspx
I am trying to convince my board that we should be playing in those leagues this spring instead of WSYSA District 6, which is probably going to fold because the Spokane teams don’t want to travel more than 2 minutes.
December 29, 2013 at 11:52 pm #1184Kevin’s club (NEU) is a major user at Concordia and may have an in there. I’ve played in their summer tournament over the years but don’t know their coach all that well (but great accomplishment on nationals – they have been close before).
December 30, 2013 at 12:15 am #1186Welcome Kevin!
December 30, 2013 at 12:18 am #1187Andrew definitely! When you are in the Portland area give a shout and we will schedule time to connect.
December 31, 2013 at 3:23 pm #1266Hey guys,
I am always open to meeting up with local coaches. Hopefully we can organize some get-togethers soon.
We also have Sean Monaghan on here who also coaches here at TFA Barcelona OR (Academy Director/ U16 head coach).
Looking forward to networking with all of you.
January 3, 2014 at 1:12 pm #1329Why not expand it to a NW chapter?

January 5, 2014 at 8:37 am #1345Kevin good seeing you last night. I don’t seem to have your email address and the couple I was with would love to pick your brain about some options for their older girl (their youngest plays with my u8s). What is the best email address to contact you on?
January 6, 2014 at 7:53 pm #1390Hey fellas I’m here in Portland as well. I coached with Westside Timbers for a few years and am now hustling to build my own vision. From my exposure to the “powers that be” here in Oregon there will be no significant progress made from within the system. If we all want to do our best possible work, we’re going to have to create something completely outside of the status quo and let the incumbents fight for our table scraps.
January 9, 2014 at 12:28 pm #1435Great to see all this networking going on with coaches in Oregon. As Chris mentioned, I’m Sean Monaghan and coach with him at TFA Barcelona Oregon. Look forward to talking\meeting with some of you during this club season.
