I created a new U13boys team from a rec league, none had played competitively before and only 3 played together previously. None are what we would consider “elite”. We have trained the last 6 weeks. We play our games in HS Fields. I play with a 3-4-3 because we are small and want to maintain possession and keep the opposing teams from overrunning our small defenders.
I have 20 players: 4 u10 players, 7 u11 players, 6 u12 players and 3 u13 players. We play in an typical travel league with divisions 1-6, and everyone plays physical, punt and rush, and defend with many… We also entered a US Club Soccer Cup competition (based on champions league format) in which we will play div 1 and 2 teams.
Whats missing from these videos is the sound, but the amount of communication (advice & help) they do is the most impressive part, it’s constant and it’s proper. They will improve their technique as the season goes by, but the desire to learn is there and the willingness to pass and move. And yes we are a physically tiny team except for the two GKs and the CF. Team is 2-0 and won a pre-season tournament and they are excited. The 1st two games (these are 70min games) we have made 358 and 405 passes. Development leads to winning which leads to pride and love of futbol…
Breakdown:
Video 1#: Holding MF releases pass to CF who crosses to PM who is told to let it go by incoming R. Winger who controls it and shoots for score.
Video #2: defender clears ball off line after a rebound and my team passed it all the way back to the fullbacks (75 yds!) to reset and build-up, leading to a score.
Video #3: R. Winger diagonals to CF, who releases to L. Winger. All three communicated constantly, the build -up was GK to CB to Holding MF to the R. Winger.
Video #4: opposing team punts it away, retrieved by L Fullback who passes to CB who passes to Holding MF, who passes to R. Winger who had checked down, who releases pass to CF.
Video #5: Holding MF threads it to MF who lays off for PM, who crosses to CF.
Video #6: was one of the numerous “rondos” we did throughout the game, no one panicked and we held the ball. There’s a 6-goal differential limit in our league so we had to play keep-away. The MF passed it to the attacking unit which formed another Rondo!
Video #7: We work a lot on our diagonal passing, unfortunately, we had about a dozen called off-side incorrectly, but they were perfect.
Videos #8 and 9: Final two videos are us playing out of the back, notice how deep opposing forwards are, because they are used to opposing GKS kicking off as far as possible. No one panicked and one led to a goal and the other to a corner kick.
Proudest thing for me: we “booted it” zero times in two games. We exhaust the other teams with our passing.
