Interesting topic gentlemen as we are looking to really incorporate futsal with our U8 boys here in the SLC area. The younger futsal leagues are difficult to find, but we have a group that owns some facilities that are wanting to help push the technical side that futsal really emphasizes. Obviously winter time is the main time around here to do the court play, but it seems smart to have it a part of what you do all year long.
January 3, 2014 at 10:24 am #1327The futsal scene here in Dallas has been growing rapidly over the last 3 years or so. There is currently year round league play offered at all ages, witht the best league being offered by City Futsal. No coincedence the two leading the way at City Futsal are former US Futsal National team members that now work closely with US Futsal.
Our club emphasizes a possession style, which is emphasized in futsal. Our leadership explored it and came to terms with City Futsal to introduce it as a part of the daily activities for our clubs players. Will be included as part of the dues paid by the players at a significatly reduced cost because of the entire club entering the program.

January 17, 2014 at 12:28 pm #1571Rene,
Interesting question. I would like to hear from others too. We have been mixing our A & B team for this futsal session. Not practicing. This is the first time for most of the girls to play futsal. So we are exploring.
As for 3Four3, take a look at the video below and look for the number of times the ball crosses the players body. Is the game that different? With 5 minutes before the game to convey game objectives it is difficult to focus on 3Four3 or any new concepts.

January 17, 2014 at 3:39 pm #1572Well, we got our doors blown off!
You definatly have to use the sole of your foot instead of playing the ball across your body.
We have a training/tactical session set up with Otto before our next game.
The kids dig it, but getting killed is tough, especially on me!
Once we figure it out, we’ll be fine, lack of practice and understanding tactics hurts big time.
I believe that after the session and moving back to the outdoors, we’ll see a benefit for our transistion to the possision game 3four3 preaches.
February 19, 2014 at 1:25 pm #1782Girls are doing great! Did you say they were U8 or U9. They are doing really well to receive the ball across their body. Very impressive for U8 or U9. My only add is I’d like to see a little more individual skill and creativity. 🙂 the basic framework is great.
February 22, 2014 at 10:15 am #1790Great thread, guys.
We have two U-9G’s teams playing their second year of Futsal her in the DMV. We also train indoors twice a week for our offseason program. The small space and quick pace is the main difference. Demands technical skills, losing your man, and intelligence.
Although the challenge is high, particularly against older teams, the payoff is huge going into Spring. Very consistent with possession soccer if done right.
i will try to get some video…thanks for opening the thread!
