I would love feedback as to what I should add/remove from this Player Evaluation form…. Here is what’s on it so far (not all items on list are my ideas):
TECHNICAL
ABILITY
Passing – Are passes accurate and well-weighted over varying distances?
Receiving – Are balls controlled well using varying body surfaces?
Heading – Is all around ability strong?
Ball Striking – Are balls struck clean and accurate with proper pace?
1 vs 1 Duels – Are attackers able to beat defenders on the dribble and are defender’s challenges well timed and sensible?
TACTICAL
ABILITY
Vision / Awareness – Ability to read the game
Influence Upon the Game – Does the player impact the game positively?
Cleverness / Intelligence – Is the player creative and deceptive?
Leadership – Does the player lead verbally and by action?
Tactically disciplined – Is the player able to read the game and take appropriate action?
PSYCHOLOGICAL
QUALITIES
Composure – How does the player cope with pressure situations and adversity?
Aggression – Is the player determined and courageous?
Attitude / Honesty – Does the player have respect for the game, coaches, and other players?
Concentration / Consistency – Does the player have the ability to remain focused at all times?
Confidence – Does the player have self belief in all situations?
PHYSICAL
QUALITIES
Stature – Players height and build
Pace – Outstanding speed or deceptive change
Agility / Balance – Change of direction and quick reaction
Strength / Power – How does player deal with physical situations?
Stamina / Endurance – Does the player compete for the duration of the match?

February 27, 2014 at 8:55 pm #1800All cleaned up for you Ryan…
We’ll be doing podcasts here and will surely touch on the subject.

I like the breakdown of categories. Its one of the reasons I prefer to evaluate players in small scale situations. Watching them at a couple of practices/games tends to give you a better feel for their actual abilities than in a cattle-call tryout. Some kids are tryout masters, but over the longer haul their bad habits and lack of effort/caring comes out.

This is a Mid-Season Evaluation Form… anyone have anything to add/delete?? Looking to use this form (with adjustments) within the next week for my players.
March 15, 2014 at 11:48 am #1858I appreciate what you did here Ryan. We are going to add this to what we do for evaluating our players as well. IMO decision making abilities is what is really lacking in the soccer culture around us. You have a couple of categories that elude to the same thing, but I’m going to put that wording on the form we use. Thanks again.
