This was the first attempt at filming by some of my former players, so they and I apologize for the quality of the video. It gets a little better as they go. The first 25 minutes was unusable.
The team in White is my High School Varsity group. I am at a low income urban school in Western Washington. We are starting to place some kids on Club Teams, but most of the players have limited or no experience with other forms of competitive soccer. This is a game against their cross town rivals, who we split the series with in last year’s league play. I made these video for the team to highlight three things we had been working on the previous week: Keeping the ball (as measured in sequences of 5+ passes), playing out of the back, and overlapping the fullbacks (attacking pattern #1). Goals, chances, and a few other notable plays that were fewer than 5 passes are also included for their reference.
Last year the team had their first taste of success by using a fast break counterattacking style, so I had some pockets of resistance to trying to change how we play, but in our two previous games the counterattack wouldn’t work because both teams sat back and left no room dehind them. For the skill and experience level of the players, I was very pleased with the application in this game.
The 343 methods are quite evident! I can see the identity, it looks like the team is really buying in! Now go get a tripod! And HD camcorders are cheap now too! Looking forward to the next video!
