We’ve been weathering a bit of a tempest locally with the team. I have been doing quite a bit of work with some parents of the technically able kids to find the right home to move forward. As a result I have not interacted much on the forums and look forward to changing that. Here’s a rundown of our team this past year:
Top team in the state our age group
5 technical kids, 5 buffaloes (we call them Brek Shea’s 🙂 )
Coach is a beginner and is convinced that he is great as the kids are “winning a lot”
Technical director played for Manuel Pellegrini in playing days in Chile. As a result has spent recent time over at Man City and has come back preaching that youth players don’t need to do that much. He uses Man City youth academy model as evidence that “they don’t even play in leagues”! All of this is a response to my phrase that I keep using with them … “Aim Higher”.
Here’s a link of highlights from a tourney that the team played in February in Las Vegas. Coach made sure to get every highlight of his kid in, but it doesn’t tell the whole story:

Overall not a bad team, but headed in the wrong direction and ignoring all the details and nuances that matter along the way. End of story the 5 technical kids left and have combined with other like minded kids and organization. New coach that came up in the Cruz Azul organization and is truly fascinated with 3four3 process and results. As asst coach I am constantly planning with him and using all the info. We were called crazy to leave a team that has “won so much”, and it really becomes impossible to reason with these people that are just on a different soccer planet. I will be sure to post videos of progress (most likely under the name Aim Higher) and appreciate whatever feedback or info that you can offer.
I have been following several of you on twitter and you can see updates here and on my twitter @BigPermAg

I absolutely loved watching these kids play. These kids are so technically able they remain me of some of the Barcelona USA U11 players. They seem to play with a lot of fun and freedom.
Were they born in 2006 or 2005? I coach an U8 team (born 2006) which I considered to be pretty good but these kids seem to be at a different level.
June 2, 2014 at 2:37 pm #2281Thanks for the positive words. We really feel that our core group are a special bunch. When this group joined up over a year ago they made music together right from the start. That is part of the reason why settling for lost time or idle time simply can not be an option.
In answer to your question they just had year end and transitioned to U9. They are 05’s and 06’s, but oddly enough the core are mostly 06 players … and left footed. I’m not sure how common that is.
Here are a couple of links when part of the group first got together while U7’s:
